Clio Area Schools has one of the top staffs in the area. That's not just us talking. The State Board of Education apparently agrees, naming Clio High School math teacher Sasha Wakefield as Regional Teacher of the Year. Congratuations Sasha!

Clio High School mathematics teacher Sasha Wakefield has been named Regional Teacher of the Year by the Michigan State Board of Education. In recognition of that achievement, both Wakefield and the Clio Area School District were recognized and presented with plaques at the State Board meeting on Tuesday, August 13. Wakefield, who is one of only 10 teachers in the state to receive such an honor, serves as mathematics department chairperson at Clio High School and National Honor Society advisor. Her selection for this honor was based on her “dedication to the teaching profession, as evidenced by her commitment to her students and track record of service in the teaching profession.” “Being named the Michigan Department of Education Region 5 Teacher of the Year is a remarkable achievement,” declared Clio Schools Superintendent Lisa Taylor. “She goes above and beyond for our students and our community. This is a well-deserved honor!” “This recognition from the Michigan Department of Education as the Region 5 Michigan Teacher of the Year 2024-2025 is an incredible honor that fills me with deep gratitude and pride,” Wakefield said. “It represents not just my individual efforts, but the support and inspiration from my students, colleagues, and the entire school community. “I am passionate and dedicated to fostering a learning environment where every student can achieve success,” she continued. “This moment humbles me and motivates me to continue striving for excellence, knowing that my work is making a meaningful impact.”
